Hwy 4 - Wagon Trail Realignment Project

The Hwy 4 Wagon Trail Realignment Project is intended to improve the safety of a 6.5 mile segment of State Route 4 from Bonanza Mine Way (2.6 miles east of Copperopolis) to Stockton Road (about 1.6 miles west of the 4/49 intersection in Angels Camp). The project will widen and realign the road removing dangerous curves.

Phase 1, 3.2 miles of the project has been approved and funded. Phase 1 covers the road design and aquiring the necessary land, and road construction from Bonanza Mine Way to just past Appoloosa Road.. Construction is planned to start January 2022 and finish late in 2023.

Phase 1 construction  has started. First section of road opens 12/22/22. (see below).
